Crud Road racer MK2

This is the first mudguard I have tried. No getting soaked any more and I do not annoy people behind now. Excellent mudguard for the price and has a good appearance. Slightly fiddly to fit but once they are on there was no problem with rubbing despite the close clearance.

Nothing else could possibly fit my planet x but these, tight fit but they work. Excellent design and even more importantly excellent price again from PBK, used PBK a lot recently can't fault them.

nearly there

Fitting was fiddly as other reviewers said but I did follow the youtube instuctions. Still feels like they are catching somewhere but might be just the brushes. Definitely seems to slow me down. Does the job though this weather but can't wait for spring.

Great Product

Let me just say that putting mudguards on a roadbike feels to me like putting a boiler suit on a beautiful woman. I don't like my the way my bike looks like with "boots" on. It was with a begrudging heart therefore that after one soggy backside too many as Autumn crept in that I decided my beloved bike was going to have to take the cosmetically gauche step of having mudguards. My priorities were a) weight and b) not making my bike look like it had become a nerdy librarian type. Crud Road Racer Mk2 Mudguards seem to fulfill both of those criteria, as well as not costing the earth. I did my research well, and, even with the trepidation that they were notoriously tricky to fit, I bought them anyway. The chaps at Probikekit packaged it and had them with me very quickly for which I was pleasantly surprised and grateful. There is an excellent video on YouTube which acts as a tutorial and I would strongly recommend you watch it before fitting. The instructions that come with them might as well as be how to assemble your own lunar lander for all the help they are. Once watched however, I found assembling the mudguards on the bike very straightforward really. Just take it nice and slowly and be thorough and you will get there. They really will work in very narrow spaces. The carbon forks on my Boardman offer precious little space for mudguards, but I still managed to fit them without cutting or alteration. Once fitted, you will need to do a bit of fiddling around with them to get the arc right around the wheel, but once you have that and all the ties are tightened they will give you precious little trouble. They are very light which is good, barely noticeable in fact. They do appear flimsy but at this weight and price what do you expect? Titanium? They also fit very close to the wheel and hug the wheel's contour very well so the don't actually notice that much as mudguards which is pleasing. So instead of your bike looking like it's wearing a boiler suit, it now looks like the aforementioned librarian with a pair of sexy glasses on which she can take off seductively come the spring and the new season. All in all, I made the right choice, and it's so nice not to have a soggy backside when inclement weather strikes!

Keep Spray under control

Very good mudguards which can be fitted on bikes with minimal clearance. These are the only mudguards I can fit on my Scott CR1. They are also very good at keeping the rider, and mechanical components free of muck and grime. They will also be appreciated by the people riding with you as they stop spray flying up into the face of following riders, something may other mudguards fail to do. Look quite good too.

A converted sceptic

5

I was sceptical when I bought them. I was more sceptical when I fitted them. Having been out with them though, I'm not sceptical any more. Yes clearance is minimal (mine still rub slightly off the bike), fitting can be fiddly (but watch the video of Mr. Crud), but they definitely work. Only downside is getting past the noise when you ride through some crud. Good product, great price.

Ok but move around a lot

I had to cut bits off, as instructed, which was fiddly and should be unnecessary - there are bits that attach to each other, but why not make the ends that might need to be cut attachable and of two different lengths? The front mud guard constantly impaired the performance of the front wheel, no matter how much I fiddled with it, either slowing the rotation or making a really annoying noise as the bottom of the mudguard flapped back and forth against the wheel. I've now taken it off. Back wheel is fine, did also need a trim though. I also had one less set of nut and screw than necessary.

Make sure they fit your tyres

3

I bought a pair of these to go on my winter training bike. This has an ITM fork and I use 25mm Schwalbe Ultremo Plus tyres. As the clearance under the fork was about 1mm I didn't them and will go back to SKS Raceblades. They do look as if they will fit another bike I have with 23mm tyres. They were not too fiddly to put together but I am a bit concerned about how long the plastic screw on nut will last.

Mud up your back

5

I have a set of these Crud road racer mudguards fitted to the old bike I rode through last winter. In the spring I bought a new Sabbath Silk Road and it wasn't until a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday club run that the absence of mudguards on the new bike became obvious, passing a field that had been recently plowed and a good amount of the field was on the road, and then up my back . Fitting the mudguards requires a bit of thought and planning ,but they are very versatile and can be adapted to fit any configuration of road bike, took me about 20 minutes. Once on they really do keep the crud off both the rider and the bike. Great spares back up from the Makers who are based in Yorkshire, parts are very reasonable should you break a back section off the rear mudguard as I did on the old bike ,whilst stuffing it into the back of my car .
