A good looking, great fitting helmet despite compact shell design, but pricey..

The Giro Ionos is well-known for its great ventilation, but what's even more important for me is the fit. This is the first 'compact' design helmet (size L) that fit my large head. It was the best helmet I've used until the Aeon was released. The Aeon is unbelievable.

Awesome helmet

This is my second road helmet and I must say it is fantastic. Adjust-ability is fantastic and very easy to use. Helmet is very comfortable and you honestly don't even realise you have it on. Ventilation is unbelievable, lets so much air in so sweat is non existent, only down side to that is in cold conditions you may need a skull cap or similar. The helmet is fairly expensive but in my opinion well worth the investment. Also the helmet looks great too. Only thing I didn't like was the length of the chin strap, I had to cut it and melt the ends so they wouldn't fray, but I guess it isnt a bad thing as others who buy this might need a lot more length. If you are at all considering this helmet my advice would be get it!

Comfortable, well fitting & attractive

This is my second road helmet and although quite expensive it is a great helmet. Extremely nice looking, fits well and plenty of adjustability although I am having some trouble getting it excactly right. The helmet is light and you barely know you are wearing it. The air flow is fantastic, no sweat at all, little cooler on those cold mornings though:) All up very happy with this purchase and the price and delivery to Australia was fantastic.

A feeling of security

I've worn this helmet for two years, in that time...
When wearing this helmet, you feel well protected. Coverage on the brow & side of the head is very good. The RocLoc keeps it firmly planted with no shiftiness while your riding.

It ventilates beautifully; so well in fact that at the end of a summer ride my hair will have been swept up into several of the vents. Considering the superb ventilation, I would take this over something like the Giro ProLite, which despite its weight savings ventilates nowhere near as well.

The sense of protection & ventilation do create a larger volume helmet than I was previously familiar with. It is noticeably larger than you might expect when wearing it. But putting the size of the thing aside for a moment, the rest of the aesthetics are spot on. The graphics are sharp looking & the carbon details are a nice touch.

A thermal cap is included with the helmet for cold weather rides. As fall rolls around, remove the stoke pads, place them somewhere safe; in their place insert the thermal cap & you're set for all but the very coldest rides. As for the stock pads, they are treated to not develop a stink after hundreds of hours of riding. Having said that, I haven't had a pair of the pads last for longer than a season (roughly 8,000 miles for me) before they begin to fall apart. That is maybe the only disappointing thing about the helmet for me.

I've have heard that people with longer, narrower head shapes can find the helmet uncomfortable, since it seems to be molded around a more round head shape.

Great helmet, wonderful security & looks sharp, but Giro needs to provide more stout pads.

heavy

For all of its popularity, this helmet is heavy. The praise for the Roc-Lok system may be true for some. Although, you can't adjust it while riding. Personally, I never got the straps to fit as well as with other helmets.

GIRO is an excellent company. They have incredible support.

The point of attachment for the Roc-Lok came undone. Giro replaced the helmet, no problem.
