Just like the clincher, these are smooth fast rolling, and fairly puncture resistant, a big Plus being their great grip which considering safety, rates highly for me. I did not want to have to worry about punctures on Tubulars. There are lighter tubulars but often guys will run glue to help prevent or assist in puncturing, but that adds 30gsm to your tyre. So I figure don't bother or what's the point getting a vittoria CX and running glue to make it the same weight as this. Better to have a great tyre with good puncture resistance and outstanding durability than something like the CX which is shot after 500kms of racing. that's a personal choice though. So far I have done about 5000km of racing / riding and only had one puncture. I generally use these for a years racing approx 1200km's then I change them to my trainers to get monies worth and for practice and confidence dealing with tubular fixing.

The Continental Grand Prix 4000 Tubular Road Tyre is not the most comfortable tubular but probably the better compromise between durability and rolling resistance. I don't trust Vittoria Corsa CX after 600km but I use the GP 4000 Tubular for training and course, all the way!

Other similar products used: Vredstein Fortezza Pro, Vittoria Corsa Evo.

I've had these tires for one week and got them mounted and ridden 300km over the weekend. They weighed exactly as advertised. Mounted easily and are very straight in their construction, some other tubulars I've used don't want to sit straight on the rim and need to be manipulated into a straight line.
I inflate these to 110PSI and the tyres ride great soaking up a little more of the road surface irregularities than the GP4000 clinchers at 100PSI.

These tyres are sensational - the handmade work in stitching them is Art.

Have used GP4000s on Campag. Hyperon wheel set for twelve months - covered the Tour Down Under in South Australia 2011, and the last week in the Alpes during the Tour de France 2011 (yell for Cadel). Run a bit of Stans goo - not one puncture as the tread/compound is seriously robust. Ride is fast and comfortable. Slight tread pattern is very safe in the wet without compromising speed. I was recommended GP4000s by a pro-cyclist that works as a bike couriers by day in Melbourne - he was bang on, these are awesome tyres. Tubulars that are bomb proof yet fast.

Make no mistake, these things are dear. But you will not find a better all round tub than this Conti. The Vittoria Evo CX may be a fraction faster but there is a light year between the quality of the Conti.
They resist cuts better, they grip "almost" as well, so little that it doesn't matter, they wear better, which makes them better value, they are more resistant to cuts... basically everything is better except being 1% behind on lateral grip.
Truly the benchmark for me
