works well

My race wheels are 60mm front and a rear disc. I can use the same 42mm valve inner tube for both, with this Topeak Presta Valve Extension on the front - it means I only have to carry one spare tube. I put some ptfe tape around the valve thread and so far, this has worked flawlessly. This extender doesn't need a removable valve core, but is different from others in that you can screw down the presta valve using the silver piece you see in the image - presumably more air secure.

Comments on Extenders

I've tried three extenders:

Zipp - problem is that it is very difficult to let air out and it also didn't always seem to work putting air in.

Tufo - Need a presta valve with removable core, so just any tube won't work. Also, the core can freeze to a CO2 head when filling with air. Then when the head is unscrewed, the core comes along and whoosh, no more air in the tube. And you should make sure you have the handy, dandy little black plastic piece for unscrewing the core and screwing on the extender.

Topeak - Seems to be the best solution. Can be used with any typical tube. Can be finger tightened on the tube valve and still seals well. Internal rod opens and closes the tube valve.

Poor quality

I went to screw the extender onto the valve, however the rubber seal fell apart instantly, leaving me with a useless extender which will no longer attach to the valve.

Works better when tire is already slightly inflated

They work as advertised when your tire already has some air in it, but if you try to use these on an empty tube it doesn't hold air too well with my pump. I clamped the pump head on the same way each time and made sure the extender was screwed on tightly as well. I carry one in my saddle pack when on a ride just in case and its so small it doesn't get in the way of anything.

Good on Paper. Useless In Practice

I saw this and thought what a brilliant idea. I wanted to use my 60mm Latex tubes in my 50mm Carbon Rims.

Boy what a let down. Yes I can get an airtight seal using my screw on Leyzene hand pump but my track pump cannot get an airtight seal. My pump head is brand new so no issue with worn seals. I even tried wrapping some ptfe tape and electrical tape around the valve but still no joy.

I have had to resort to buying some 80mm tubes instead

better than the others

I like this product because you can twist the top and it opens and closes the valve nut. I've used it with my co2 head and it attaches to the valve with no issues either.

More convenient than a plain extension

Topeak's valve extender doesn't just add length to the outside of your valve, it also includes a captive rod inside the body that grabs the original valve's lock nut.
