Camelbak H2O Bottle

I have been using generic water bottles for years. The Camelbak is a much nicer bottle. The spout is easier to clean, has a more positive closed position, and is made from a higher quality plastic. Some plastics are really bad for leaching chemicals and some are Ok, and some essentially do not leach any chemicals. The generic bottles fall in the OK category, but the Camelbak bottles fall in the best category.

Camelbak Bottles

This is a first for me in many years of cycling, I really like the amount of liquid and ease over your standard bike shop bottle

Non-drip (Well, almost)

I'm still looking for that elusive Holy Grail of a water bottle that doesn't drip/leak when near full. The Camelbak patented Jet Valve (TM) is supposed to be spill-proof, but mine still leaks a little when the bottle is near-full at the commencement of a ride. No problem if the bottle contains just water, but if it contains an energy drink then a sticky bottle exterior ensues. Better than many previous bottles I have used (not Camelbak), but not perfect. Once upon a time, a patent could be invoked for inutility, so Camelbak's patent for the Jet Valve (TM) would have been in jeopardy because the Jet Valve (TM) is manifestly not leak-proof. Patent lawyers could doubtless argue for days (and at great expense) regarding whether spill-proof means the same as leak-proof, but the bottom line is that the bottles do leak, albeit only a little.

Probably the best bottle

I'v gone through most of the big brand bottles including supossedly the best, Specialised Hydroflow. The new Camelbak is probably the best. I've had to chuck out the original Camelback Podiums as too much black deposite-bacteria got built up when used to store electrolyte - energy drinks and there is no way to clean the nozzle properly as they don't come apart. The new design has fixed that problem and while I can not be sure if the bottle material has been changed, when you grab the bottle, the texture of the plastic makes better grip and feel. Maybe not as good as Specialised Hydroflow but not far off it and the nozzle design is much better as Hydroflow starts to leak once the o-ring has worn down.
