The most all-round wheel set for the tourist or competitive racer looking for clincher wheels. With 45mm deep carbon rims the F4R-c is easy to handle and therefore also perfectly suited for riding uphill. The joint of the aluminium brake surface is welded for better brake performance and the rim has wear indicators to advise when the rim needs to be replaced.

Improved FFWD Hub Set
FFWD Wheels is constantly looking for improvements to offer better quality by searching for or
developing the best possible parts.

FFWD Wheels cooperated with DT Swiss to start the development of a completely new FFWD hub
based on the experience and known reputation of the Swiss hubs.
The high precision build guarantee smooth running bearings protected by press fit end caps which
enable to apply service without any tools.

This project resulted in the new FFWD hub by DT Swiss, a strong and durable hub with Swiss
precision to offer an even better price/quality ratio to FFWD wheel sets.
Although the level of quality improved, FFWD wheels with these hubs will stay at its current price

Fast!

People want wheels like this for speed and/or looks. The F4R-C are exceptional in both respects and come at a fraction of the cost of their rivals. The carbon is structural rather than just being a fairing like on some alu-carbon models, which should make they really robust, with the half-price crash replacement programme adding some reassurance. The hand build construction also adds to the practicality with easily replaceable parts. Overall the quality seems much better than my Dura Ace, particularly the braking surface. The ride is also very comfortable thanks to the added width and volume of the wheels. So how fast are they? To put things in context, I bought the wheels for speed on flat rides, to compliment my superb Dura Ace C24 climbing wheels; I also have a pair of the highly rated Fulcrum Racing 3, which I now use primarily for winter. I took the Fast Forwards out for testing on my favourite 30km undulating Yorkshire loop (200m climbing), which I have set up as a Strava segment and ridden 78 times previously. Crosswinds were buffeting at 20-30kmh, so I wasn't expecting to even match my best time. When I uploaded I was stunned to discover I'd taken precisely 2 mins 30 seconds off my PR, covering the 30km in 50:09! The Fast Forwards coped brilliantly with the winds and felt like they could just carve through them untroubled like a truck and far better than box section wheels. They didn't give the same sense of acceleration as my Dura Ace but felt like they could just power on once up to speed, even when they hit the 3-5% uphill drags. In fact I took 12 seconds off my final 2km 3% drag home, boosting me from 18th to 2nd out of around 2000 on the Strava Leaderboard. Are these wheels for you? If you ride primarily in the Peaks or Lakes then I wouldn't hesitate to choose something like the Dura Ace C24 over these. If you you ride on flat and or undulating terrain then I'd grab the Fast Forwards with the caveat that you can already average over 32kmh/20mph in order to take advantage of the laminar flow. The F4Rs are reasonably light and will climb well enough for those who only pay occasional visits to the hills. I think they make a much better option than the heavy F6 version for general riding, racing and all but the TT specialist.

Awesome FFWD

My first step into the world of carbon rims and what a way to start. These are not only a thing of beauty, the drag resistance at speed is cut so much, I feel I could cycle all day, they climb well too. I've not ridden them in strong side winds yet, but light gusts seem not to upset the bike any more than open wheels. Build quality is superb. Characteristic loud ticking of the freewheel is embarrassing when you have to freewheel in a changang because you're rolling too fast!
