The Grand Prix 4000S II boasts global appeal as the best all round race bike tyre on the market. Not only is it fast and super grippy, thanks to its state of the art BlackChili rubber compound, but it is also tough with a healthy tread layer and of course Continental's Vectran anti puncture breaker layer underneath. So for reliability, longevity and all out performance for your race machine, the GP 4000S II is the only choice.
How are these figures possible? The carbon filler particles within the rubber compound are reduced to 1/10th of the size of standard carbon particles. This creates a closer knit with the particles having more points of contact with each other, thus forming a tighter bond, (increasing mileage performance) and also with the road (increasing grip). Also the way in which the particles interact with each other has a dramatic effect on reducing rolling resistance. Black Chili is used by several ProTour and Continental teams as shown opposite.
The all new Vectran breaker belt, developed and patented by Continental, surpasses even the famous puncture resistance of the former leader in this category, the GP3000. The extremely strong Vectran fabrics are more flexible and lighter than all other puncture protection materials. Vectran offers more resistance to cuts than Aramid, is five times as strong as steel and features less weight than a nylon double breaker. It also maintains strength in the wet.

OK all-around clincher although overpriced and (IMHO) overhyped in the cycling press. Rolls decent, though not as fast as Conti's own Attack/Force combo, Vittoria Open Corsa, or Michelin ProRace. Handling is good, although there are better. Treadwear is very good for a race tire. But the ride is rather wooden compared to other top tires in this price range...and like a wagon wheel compared to Open Corsa. DEAL BREAKER for me is the weak sidewalls. This summer I was riding an ultra event (200+miles) with a guy who lost not one but 2 of these GP4000s to sidewall damage flats. I witnessed one of his flats and his support crew showed me both tires after the event. Both were near new and looked like suffered damage from small rocks. Bad luck? Maybe but no one from my team had any flats riding those same roads on various other race tires. And there are many other reports on web of sidewall issues with GP4000s. My advice if you like Conti's- use Attack/Force for racing as notably faster with similar durability (though less tread life) or Gatorskins for training as almost as fast as GP4000s and (almost) never flat.
I love these tires. The last one that I had lasted for 5,000 miles before a side wall puncture. They are fast on the flat and great on corner. All of my friends own them and I would recommend them to everyone who is thinking of purchasing their next tires.
Great cornering in wet and dry conditions. Only tire I have had on my bike!
I recently purchased a set of Continental GP4000S II tires from ProBikeKit and couldn't be happier. I have almost 500 miles on these tires. The tires have excellent grip and low rolling resistance. I have noticed my Strava times are lower on many segments. ProBikeKit's tire price was great, and I received my tires within one week to Los Angeles which was faster than I expected. I've read that some people have said that the tires have so-so puncture resistance, but from the friends I've spoken with who have these tires, they say the GP4000S II tires have good puncture resistance. I'm very happy with these tires.
I switched over to the GP 4000s a few years ago from the Vittoria Open Corsas a few years ago. While the GPs are not quite as smooth, they are almost and they a far more durable than the Vittorias. The stability and relative absence of flats make these the best all around value of any tire I've used.
This is a great place to buy tires (tyres) - they are extremely well priced and delivered to the USA very quickly and free.
No issues with any of the ordering or delivery process and I live in CA, USA.
Best tires I have ever used in the 14 years that I have been riding, traction and gripping are great, I will be buying these tires for a long time.
I've purchased 3 sets of the Continental Grd Prix 4000S II clincher tyres since they became available. The tread last a long time, they corner extremely well, and are about as puncture resistant as possible. What else could you ask for? OK, maybe a lower price. But you'll save in the long run with the tread life. This is the best tire money can buy for everyday training and worry free racing. -smallcog11
Switched from Continental Gatorskins 700-23 to Continental Grand Prix 4000S II 700-25. With the lower tire pressure(15lbs.) my overly stiff carbon bike suddenly became much more comfortable, yet none of it's agility or high speed cornering seem to have been compromised. Took it easy at first, to build confidence, but have since done sweeping turns at almost 50 mph, and 180 deg switchbacks at over 35 mph quite comfortably. Bike also seems to accelerate just slightly quicker, both pedaling and descending. No flats so far, despite several significant unavoidable glass encounters, so these seem to have the anti-flat quality of the Gatorskins. Overall a winner ! !
I'm pleased with the performance of the GP 4000SII Conti clinchers. They are relatively light and grippy, which give me the confidence to take more aggressive lines in the turns at faster speeds. However, be warned, they will definitely wear at a faster rate than heavier, beefier tires such as the Conti Gatorskins which is to be expected given the rubber compound and thinner rubber at the touch points. Perhaps consider doing training rides with the Gatorskins and Crits/fast rides with the GP 4000SII's.
excellent tire great price and fast shipping to US
Over 40 years I have tried a lot of different bicycle tires. These are far and away the best so far. Almost bulletproof. I have ran probably 10,000-15,000 Clydesdale miles on Conti GP4000S and SII over the past few years, on two different bikes and have yet to flat. I have had glass and stones stick to the tire (thump-thump-thump) and had to reach down and knock it off, but n air lost. Highly regarded.
they last forever, flat resistant, rols great, BUT, the bead blows off the rim fairly easily when inflating even though the seating of the bead is quadruple checked, and the tire is new or just fixing a flat. I have purchased several pairs and it seems to be a persistent issue. Just check the bead carefully five times and they are great tires.
Great Tire...was a Michelin man for years...but switched to these 2.5yrs ago.
I have been ordering my Continental tires and tubes from PBK for years now. Best place in the world to get them from! From a convenient, and easy to use website, to friendly and professional representatives to talk to on the phone, I have used and have had nothing but pleasant experiences. Keep up the good work, Pro Bike Kit!!!!
I am looking for a tire for my IRONMAN Race. I need one that will be fast, but also durable so I don't have to change a flat during the race. After searching reviews, I found this one the Continental Grand Prix 4000S. They installed easy, look great, are very fast and durable so far. Given, I've only been on one 46 mile ride as soon as I got them. The only down side to this company is they took about 10+ to ship to Chicago IL. However, I didn't mind waiting as I was also tuning up my bike at the time and needed about 10 days anyways to get all the other parts ready for biking season here. As this was the best deal I found all over the internet they definitely get 5 stars from me.
very good tire, lasts long mileage. Grip and performance is very good too. Do not over pump this tire because that's when you start getting flats. I weight 190 plus bike and stuff, so total around 207 and I I only put 90 psi front and 95 back - super smooth with minimal rolling resistance and no flats. Get this tire and you will be happy with it.
Guys, once you buy the Conti GP 4S II you will not buy any other tire. These Contis are design for every aspect of Cycling. Don't waste your time and money buy the right tire.
These Conti's are great all-season tires that wear well and give me confidence on all sorts of road conditions. A great value.
IMO these are the best clincher tires on the market today. The previous version was excellent and now they are even better with increased treadlife and even less rolling resistance. Their punture resistance is great. And when you can get them for a super price it is an outstanding deal.
Over the past 5 years I've been using these tyres with success. They are the only tyre I would use.
Bought these again to go on my race wheels. As always a solid selection. Low CRR with some flat protection. Overall fast, quality tires.
These tires are great. Fast, good grip and durable!
Tire has good grip, both wet and dry. The ride comfort is very good. Not as harsh as a gator skin, it has the same punture resistance as a gator skin and it last a little bit less. The trade off is weight savings and comfort for a little bit less life. I ride 11 hours a week and they last me about 5-6 months. 200lbs rider. Thanks
During the last 20 years I have ridden many models and brands of tires and for the last few the GP 4000s has been my favorite. The combination of relatively light weight and puncture resistance make this clincher an obvious choice for me. I ride about 100 miles a week and although there have been a few flats, mine are less frequent than those of my ride mates. Oddly, the two or three riders who swear by Continental's Gatorskins flat more often than me. Additionally, the tire's grippiness far exceeds my abilities on all road surfaces. There are lighter tires, there may may be more durable tires, there are certainly less expensive tires, but in my opinion, the GP4000s is a winner.
Still the best all around tire for the money. Rolls great, extremely flat resistant, and you can get a ton of miles from them. Great value and performance.
I had ridden Continental Gatorskins for years and consider them to be outstanding tires. Based on other reviews, I decided to try the GP4000S. The trade-off for the GP4000S is less sidewall protection, but a better ride. I have had absolutely no regrets. They seem to ride well, wear well, and so far anyway, no flats! Last PBK sale I stocked up on the eventual replacement for my GP4000S, which is ... GP4000S.
Excellent product, price and customer service.
Black chili compound gives me confidence in wet conditions. Sticks to the road, but rolls almost effortlessly. Averaging 5,000 miles per set with no flats (that will jinx me). I've been on 23 mm tires for sometime. I bumped it up to 25 mm for this set, if for no other reason than a bit more surface contact and a modestly better ride.
this is the only tire I use for both training ang racing.
Greeeaaaaattttttt service, fastest shipping ever.... Awesome products and price.
Just an outstanding version of a performance road tire. This tire really sets the bench mar against which other clinchers are measured. Not only fast but durable.
The Grand Prix 4000S are the best clincher tires on the market. I have now put them on all my bikes. They wear really well and hardly get any cuts on the tread. I get very few flats. Compared to the Michelin Pro Race tires, these tires blow them out of the water. You can't go wrong with these tires and this price.
Excellent tires it so very comfortable. I will buy again next time and I highly recommend this tire to all hardly road bike riders.
Always the best! Excellent in the corners, durable and puncture proof!
Simply the best tires I have ever used! At an incredible price :)
So far one the best tires I've used. Excellent grip thru curvy descents, minimal flats, don't remember the last one I got while using these tires. This tires are great for all uses because their durable and light weight . Excellent tires in my experience.
Love these tyres. I'm not a racer so I can't comment on them as competition tyres. However, for a fitness/recreational rider these hard to beat. That, plus probikekit's prices make them the go-to tyres for me.
I consider the GP4000s the best tires now the 4000s II improved on performance and improved rolling resistance, which is hard to notice so we just have to take Continental's word for it. Unfortunately my adventure on my set was cut short I sliced it with a piece of metal. The roll smooth and always feel confident when cornering.
Simple. Great product at the best price. And all the convenience of a well run e-store. I have got my tires (tyres) from this site for years. No they do not pull me to the left side of the road. Its all good.
Great tire, great price and fast shipping.
Sweet ride and long lasting. Just love them!
The Continetal 4000s; Super fast rolling, excellent grip, and long lasting tire. Only weakness prone to side wall cuts. Pro Bike Kit; The Best Prices! Excellent Service! Plan ahead shipping is free but it takes about 2 weeks to get your tires. Thanks Pro Bike Kit
First let me say that the service has been excellent. The whole ordering process was easy, the price was outstanding, and the delivery very good. The tires themselves are the best I have ever ridden on. So far I have gotten excellent wear and tear, minimal cuts, and very few flats. Compared to the Michelin Pro Race Series of tires, the 4000S blow them off the road. You can't go wrong with these tires at this price.
First time riding these tires. Bought them for my winter time riding (30 degrees). Comfortable, good grip, with low riding resistance.
Too bad they did not tape the bottom of the box. I would like to review the tires, but they were not there.
For the first time i bought the continental tyre 4000sII clincher road from Probikekit and they are just the best,i already logged in 140 miles in them in a kiawe tree thorns road and they are just durable,no flat and no damage to them,a good rolling resistance and a powerful spin as long as you ride hard,i love them so much and i will for sure put them on my list when i need them, thank you probikekit for the great holiday price on your web, love them, love them more.
I only ride and race these tires. I do watch what others in my area ride and most ride the GP 4000S II also. We have very few flats on our rides and we ride @4-5 days a week year round(I rode 5,000 miles in 2014). For me the wear indicator is a major selling point. As long as the rest of the tire is good I ride them until the wear indicators are almost gone.
