The Continental Grand Prix 4000 works on any road surface, its activated silica compound improves the handling at stability limits and offers excellent rolling resistance. This tyre provides long-term performance and precision production qualities.

The Vectran breaker belt is made from an extremely strong fabric that's more flexible and lighter than other puncture protection materials. Vectran's anti-tear formula stops tread brittleness and increased mileage performance. Five times as strong as steel, Vectran is a lightweight nylon double breaker that remains strong in wet conditions.

Tread wear indicators ensure riders can measure the life of the GP 4000 tyre. This ensures riders won't lose mileage performance by replacing the tyre too soon, and you won't use the tyre beyond its tread life. - A.D.

Great Tires

I believe Continental makes the best bike tires; and the Grand Prix 4000 & Grand Prix 4000S are their best. I like the rolling feel and I get great durability---as much as 4000 miles on a set. I highly recommend.

Best tyre

Excellent tyre. Grippy and fast. Reflective strip is good for safety while night riding. I've heard of friends getting 4000+ kms out of these.

No Brainer

After having previous GP4000 tyres it was a no-brainer to get some more when the need arose. I personally prefer the 25 over 23mm tyres as the ride is more comfortable if you are spending hours on the road doing the hard yards. You can run these tyres at a slightly lower pressure than normal which makes for less vibration. I did not buy these for the reflective strip, but not worried by it either way, but could be great at night for anyone needing it.

Recommended

I don't have a lot to compare it to except some Michelin PRO 3 Service Course that came on the bike originally. The GP are not as comfy and seems to weigh more, but the grip seems on-par or better than the PRO3s. The GPs also seem to be wearing much better and are MUCH less likely to get flats. Lastly, the GPs are easier to fit onto the bike. The PRO3s I had to wait until they were on the bike to fully inflate.

Nice tire, good on clean roads

I purchased a pair of these tires to try out this Winter. I really like the idea of the reflective strip. With the short winter days I thought the extra visibility would be a benefit.

The Good
-700x25 handled great and were very comfortable
-Very solid on packed gravel & pavement. Worked great in the rain

The Bad
-2 flats in the first 500km
-The rubber seems to pick up lots of glass & debris, probably what makes it so good in the rain

Conclusion
Nice tires if you are riding on reasonably clean roads. The extra volume compared to 700x23 allowed me to run at a slightly lower pressure and made for a great ride. The handling was good. The reflective strip is really noticeable when a car is coming at you from the sides. I would not buy them again because of the amount of debris that was stuck (waiting to turn into a flat!) in the tire after each ride. Too much risk of having to change a flat while out in the rain.

Great commuter tyre

I've done 1000km commuting on these tyres in Sydney summer & autumn, and to date have been fast yet rugged. Lower profile than my last Conti commuters so feel faster but a little less stable. Grip good overall. Have only had one flat (slow leak from tiny cut, on front tyre). Little wear dot indicators are handy I guess, but hard to see & you have to search for them. The reflective stripe is not so reflective (perhaps Sydney streets are grimier than other towns...) so 5 stars besides that.

This ends my search for a tire

A little about me. I am not a racer, I ride for fitness and fun and I do most of my rides before sunrise. I ride mostly nice roads and my rides range from 15 to 75 miles

I am really impressed with this tire. I have about 1000 miles on my current set. Showing minimal wear and I have yet to flat. Seems much better wearing than Michelin Krylions that they replaced. Ride is very smooth. I like the reflective sidewalls for my pre-dawn rides.

To everybody's disbelief, I was trying to get 10,000 miles !

I've had about 4 sets of conti 4000 and wouldn't use anything else. This last set I rotated (front to rear) at about 3500miles, just when the back started getting squared off some. I try to use my brakes in emergencies only! I run 90 lb.rear 85 front and pump weekly. I have a full carbonbike with Krysruim s.l."s and dura ace di2 electronic shifting and the conti's roll better, brake better, corner better(I can usually coast past most people). I went a year without a flat but I hit a rock(I think) and flated a couple a miles later. That happened about at the 9000 mark and I happened to be on a timed century ride.(I shouldn't bragged about having no flat for one year) About a week later we had a panice stop involving a dog and than I couldn't find the wear indicators anymore and seen some cord showing so Ionly made it to the 9400 mile mark!SO, my next set I am hoping to get over 10,000 miles!! As long as you see the wear indicator, why change them prematurely.

Good tire, but with a flaw

In my 30 years of riding and racing, I have decided that Continental tires are the only "premium" clincher that is really worth the premium price.
The reflective stripe on these tends to de-laminate and the ends detach and start flapping. Then the rest of the stripe pulls off very easily You are still left with a perfectly fine Conti tire, but without the reflective stripe.

I would take ANY MODEL Conti over any other brand.

Great Tires - Smooth ride

Although I punctured the first time I rode these tires which was disappointing, I have not had one since,Training and racing. I love these tires. The compound in soft, Great for training on so smooth. I Have one pair on my road bike and one pair on my Fixie.
