A great pair of bike tires are essential to enhance the performance of your machine. Many aspects contribute to the construction of a bike tire and, ultimately, where it can ride, including rubber compound, tread, carcass, and size. Broadly, bike tires are available in three different designs - road bike tires, gravel bike tires, and mountain bike tires.

If you're mainly riding on the road and smooth paths, then a set of road bike tires will offer the lowest rolling resistance, so you'll ride faster for less effort. Road bike tires are generally slimmer and come in widths between 23mm and 32mm. The larger your tires, the more comfort they will offer out on the road. If you're primarily using your road bike tires for racing in summer, then a set of lightweight bike tires that offer low rolling resistance would make the most sense. However, if you're using your road bike tires for commuting all year round on rough roads, then a highly puncture-resistant, comfortable bike tire would be a better choice.

When riding on rougher surfaces like cobbles or gravel, gravel bike tires will provide more grip and comfort so that you can tackle the rough stuff with complete confidence. Gravel bike tires are typically much wider than road bike tires and are available between 32mm for smooth pathways up to 50mm for the roughest gravel tracks. When buying gravel bike tires, you should also consider the tread. Generally, the more aggressive the tread pattern, the more grip the tire will offer, and the better suited it will be to wet muddy terrain. You should also consider running tubeless gravel tires, which will provide additional comfort, grip, and speed on the rough stuff.

Finally, if you're a mountain biker, then a set of mountain bike tires that offers the highest level of grip, comfort, and speed on the roughest surfaces would be an ideal choice. Mountain bike tires come in three different sizes - 26-inch, 650b, and 29-inch. The size of your wheel dictates the circumference of the tire you can use. Mountain bike tires are the broadest type of tire and come in widths between 1.9 inches and 2.9 inches. You should also consider the tread pattern of your tire. If you a cross country racer who's looking for speed and only rides on moderately technical trails, then a tire with a less aggressive tread would be preferable. However, if you're a downhill mountain biker or enduro rider who wants to hit technical single tracks with confidence, then a set of tires with plenty of knobs are the way to go.

Thankfully, we stock a wide range of bike tires to suit a wide variety of riding styles, cycling disciplines, and budgets. So, shop from our massive range of bike tires at ProBikeKit.
