Top Race Tubular

I club race 2-3 times a week and am lucky enough to have different specific race bikes and training bikes and in the process try many different products to seek any performance advantage I can. This is not a tyre for training, but for crit riding I believe the Veloflex Extreme 22 Tubular Road Tyre presents me with a huge advantage racing. It is very light, delightfully fast, surprisingly robust and resistant to punctures and seemingly inspires confidence through tight corners and switchbacks. I have seven tubular race wheel sets, four carbon and three alloy so; I approach each race with a scientific viewpoint and choose what I believe will offer me the best advantage given the current conditions. I have used Veloflex for years, but this is the first time (< 600km) I have tried the Extreme 22 Tubular and I am very impressed. I am definitely attacking corners faster and I am able to gap my fellow competitors big time when I enter the corners first. I suspect I will always use another tyre brand for certain races and training, but as far as I am concerned the Extreme 22 Tubular rates as one of if not the best crit tyre I have used.

Great grip&comfort

velofrex tire is great grip! and comfortable. my best choice tubular tyre!

A Pro Tub

Racing tubulars are like red wines. Everyone prefers a Grand Cru over a two buch chuck, but which chateaux is best is arguable. Racing tubulars are the pinnacle of tires, but some prefer Vittoria, other Contis, others Schwalbe. I prefer Veloflex. All these tires offer excellent performance, especially feel, resistance and durability. The irony of tubulars is that they seem to be much more durable than clinchers. Which is a good thing because they cannot be repaired on the road, and are very difficult to repair normally. I just throw them away when punctured or cut. But honestly that's not too often and I certianly don't think tubulars are expensive on a smile per mile basis. Veloflex tubs are beautifully made, very consistent, round and straight. They offer competitive weights. Easy to install, and relatively easy to get straight. The Carbon is a great choice although I prefer the Extreme just because it weighs a little less. I do put a small amount of sealant in the tires which adds a little weight, but it works very well for goathead punctures all too common where I ride. I would have to put sealant in any tire I ride, so the Veloflex is still my weight conscious, high performance choice.
