Is it grip? Sidewall responsiveness?
I had high hoped for this tire, especially when coming from 60,000 kms running Veloflex and, mostly lately, Continental Attack/Force or Competition tubulars. I am thoroughly dissapointed and slower, but unsure why. Front is 25m, rear 28. Enve SES. They seem to have grip, uphill, 12-25C, in turns. But seem vastly inferior to Continental. They have more grip than Veloflex, but are less comfortable. And likely slower. Whatever tests they did in Finland, these things do not hold a candle to Continental. I switch from the V3RS Colnago, 2022, Enves SES 5.6 to a 2014 Columbus monocoque, softer, weathered, noodlish, and am nearly as fast! The sound they make uphill suggests that the Made in Thailand Compound has an artifical feel and lack of responsiveness to it. Perhaps new, in a lab, they have grip. but rub your hand against it from road grime, and they seem ungrippy. Conti? same asphalt, GRIP, shave your arm hair. Figuring out pressure has been another issue. Conti 25 mm I usually nail them at 92PSI front, 112 PSI rear end of ride (so inflate to 100/120 max and they drop 5psi when removing the pump, etc etc). But tried on the 28mm 115, 110 - Michelins are TOO BOUNCY!.. 105 meeh, 100 TOO SOFT TOO SLOW The 23 mm front tried 100, 95, 90, again, below 90 they feel mushy especially getting up in the saddle... Noen fo these issues plague veloflex or Continental. And strangely, elss grippy Veloflx (I can slide the rears with torque uphill), The veloflexes are faster. And Continental just thrashes them. That says it all. Uphill, Downhill, sharp turns, SPEED, torque to road, you feel it..
I've always been a fan of Michelin and thought they always make good products until I tried this tubular. When compared to Continental Force Comp or Corsa, this tire is really bad. 1. it's maximum pressure is ~120 psi. too low for tubular. 2. 25mm is actually ~26-28mm. 3. grip is extremely disappointing. 4. very very very hard to put on. accordingly, was next to impossible to align it properly. Michelin needs to make a new version to fix this miss.
Pretty decent tire
I just glued this tire on a couple weeks ago and it seems to ride better than I thought it would, corners well and it doesnt leak down overnight to badly. I normally put air to it every other day I ride it consecutive days. Im running about 6.5 bar when I fill it and I weigh 78kg.
