Long distance performance. Intensive: Incorporating 'hardskin' technology to resist cuts and perforations without loss of comfort or power.

Key Features:

  • Kevlar-Protech puncture protection.
  • Thermoplastic reinforced gum improves longevity and performance without decreasing grip.
  • Weight: 230/240g (Manufacturer claimed).
  • Size: 700 x 23 or 25mm.

What is best used for: The Intensive is a high-performance tyre for long distance use.

Will it fit my rim: This is a standard fit 700c tyre and will fit a standard clincher rim. Is it a clincher or tubular tyre:

It's a clincher tyre. Is it puncture resistant: Yes... the tyre has a kevlar internal belt which will help to prevent a puncture (no tyre is puncture proof).

This is a folding clincher tyre: What is the difference between a rigid and a folding tyre? A rigid tyre has a steel bead compared to a folding tyre that has a folding bead which is lighter.

Please note tyres inc Tubulars are covered for warranty against manufacturing defects only. Damaged caused by incorrect fitting, debris, solvents, UV damage and wear and tear are not covered. Tubular tyres should be checked for leaks prior to fitting as damage to the valve can occur during fitting, tubular tyres that have been fitted are not covered by warranty. Puncture protection increases the tyres protection against punctures compared to a similar weight of tyre without protection, while the likelihood of puncturing is reduced there is still a possibility of puncturing.

Sizing off

I have owned a 23c version of this tire(and 3 other Hutchinson tires including the Atom and 2 Fusion 3s), and I like it just fine. It measures around 22.5mm, which is pretty close, and I haven't had a flat since owning it. I thought I would order a 25c version for the rear, and PBK had a great deal so I ordered. I received it yesterday, installed it today, and it looked narrow so I measured it. It measures right at 23mm, and maybe slightly more if I am generous. Definitely this is not what I wanted. It is a good tire however, and hopefully something can get worked out through all of this.

A good price and they roll well. Thin, supple sidewalls are vulnerable, though

The Hutchinson Intensive is a training version of the company's Fusion race tyre, intended for year-round rides. Rolling performance is better than many of its more expensive competitors.

The rubber feels harder than those other tyres but offers less traction – and presumably friction, though we never had any nervous moments on the Intensives. A Kevlar belt under the tread should deflect most potential punctures, but the Hardskin reinforcement of the casing doesn’t do much for those thin, supple sidewalls.

Great Tyres

I haven't had a puncture since I got these tyres, they are much cheaper on PBK than in a shop which means you save about $20

A supple tyre with decent rolling performance, but it’s not all that tough

The Hardskin technology that reinforces the tyre casing with a 'dense textile grid’ isn’t particularly tough, though, and the pliable sidewalls slash fairly easily. Their suppleness does help the Intensive to roll quite well.
