4I used to only buy Michelin tires, but when they changed their rubber compound I started getting too many cuts and flats. I switched to Continentals and saw an immediate improvement. The roads in Arizona are littered with debris and thorns making it imperative to have flat resistant tires. The first 4000S II tires I had were prone to sidewall failures (I experienced one on a double century), but the more recent ones seem to be much better. I haven't had a tire failure on the last two sets of these tires nor have I experienced any flats.

4The Continental GP 4000S is the best racing clincher (period)! The closest competitor, the Vittoria EVO CX-3, feels slightly faster rolling, but not nearly as comfortable over long distances; plus, it cuts/gauges too easily. I typically do centuries; so, I need something that won't beat me up over the course of the ride. The Conti has better puncture protection and resists cuts much better than the competition. This is an actual race day tire that can be used for training. Exceptional!

4As a randoneur I put many miles on tires. I have 3000 miles on the bike that went to Paris for the PBP over the summer and there is plenty of good tread still to go through. Handling is good in wet or dry weather. The Continental Grand Prix 4000S II continues as my preferred tire on all of my road bikes.

5These are the smoothest rolling, toughest tyres I have ridden in many years. The provide low rolling resistance and great durability. Continental is always my choice. Look for some at a sale price and keep some spares on the shelf.
