Excellent for Home Bike Mechanic

This is a very well engineered and well made product. It is my 3rd "Feedback Sports" product. I also own a work stand (from the days when the company was called "Ultimate") and a tool tray that fastens securely to the stand. These gave me confidence to order the pro truing station, and I have not been disappointed. I own two bikes - a 29er hardtail, and a road bike which I just bought, both with disc brakes. I wanted this stand to keep the wheels and discs true. Both bikes were bought on line, and arrived with poorly tensioned spokes. I had to tighten the spokes considerably to get them to a tension that will maximize the strength of the wheel. The truing stand was perfect for the job, making it a pleasure to true and tension my wheels. I'm reviewing this from the perspective of a home bike mechanic who does all his own maintenance. I can't say how it compares with a stand designed and built for shop use, but for my purposes, it is much more than adequate - it is excellent. I was wary of the stability of a one-armed stand, and wondered how easy it would be to fix the wheel to the stand. I needn't have worried - it clamps on to the single arm using the wheel's own skewer and quick release. I looked closely for signs of instability or wobble, and found none. The wheel sits firmly in the device. There may be a few thousands of an inch of play, but I can't see it, and that little would be meaningless for truing wheels. The base of the stand is heavy enough to do the job. For those who own a Feedback Sports or the older Ultimate work stand, the truing stand fastens to the top of the stand, allowing the user to adjust the stand height to make it perfect for truing wheels. Again, it is solid and doesn't wobble at all in use. The only minor disadvantage is that you have to take 10 seconds to dismount and reverse the wheel to ensure the offset is set correctly. The truing stand also has a device for truing brake discs while mounted on the wheel, and it is also very handy. I am fully satisfied with this product and would recommend it to any home bike mechanic who loves to keep his wheels true.
