The only saddle I use
I've had these on my last 3 bikes, they're perfect. Light, long, low profile, look amazing, and you can easily get 3 positions on them (i.e. forward, middle back) and be well supported in each.
What's even better is you can match them with a fizik clip-bag which allows you to have a stowed pack (tube, tools, levers etc) to swap between bikes and take on/off for races.
Good saddle, but beware as it is firm
I upgraded from a Fizik Arione Wing Flex saddle and expected them to feel relatively similar but this Arione CX is significantly firmer both at the nose end and on the main mid/back section. This takes a little getting accustomed to and you may find you need to take a few rides adjusting your saddle forward/backward on the rails or tilting the nose slightly forward, etc to get an optimum fit. This is probably the case with most new saddles but I would say it is more of an issue with the Arione CX as there are several positions where sitting on it for any length of time can be quite uncomfortable unless you've taken the time to get the position right.
The padding on the CX is firm - not rock hard, but certainly much firmer than most. If I was doing 150km + rides regularly I would not recommend it as I think it is just too hard. For <100km rides and short races it is perfect. Also note the ovalized rails which means this isn't suitable for use with some seat posts (eg. some 3T models). I see there are several comments for the Wing Flex saddle of people not liking the shape of the saddle - these concerns would be the same if they tried the CX model as it is the same basic shape.
Pros
- looks fantastic
- slight gloss finish on saddle looks fantastic and does not wear off
- easy to move around on while you are riding but not 'slippery'
- once you take the time to position it right, it feels great
- Fizik also sell a rear light which attaches to this saddle
Cons
- harder on your backside that other models of Fizik saddles
- ovalized rails may not be compatible with your seatpost
- not really suitable for long distance rides
- despite the carbon rails, you do feel big bumps in the road!
Important: I would certainly not recommend this saddle for female cyclists - the centre section and the nose are just too firm and unforgiving. The pressure on various points of your body would make this a very uncomfortable saddle.
Great value - perfect fit
This is my third Arione, and they just get better.
No lost mileage being sore as this saddle is fitted even better then the first two.
