Big Package, Big Tech
Garmin’s top-tier cycling computer comes full of technology. Naturally, it’s Bluetooth and ANT+ compatible making it easy to pair with your heart rate monitor, and speed and cadence sensor, as well as power meters, indoor trainers, PCs, and more. Unlike the lesser bike computers, the 1030 Plus is also WiFi enabled, making synching your rides and downloading routes a seamless process.
What’s In The Box
Garmin’s HRM dual heart rate monitor is a simple, easy to use, and reliable heart rate monitor to help you keep track of your heart rate while out training or racing. Weighing only 59 grams, and powered by a simple to replace coin cell battery that’ll last three years, you’ll hardly notice it’s there. Both the cadence and speed sensors are equally simple and easy to use. They’ll attach to your bike with elasticated bands and once paired with your new bike computer they’re good to go!
If it’s a larger screen you’re looking for in a cycling computer, the 1030 Edge is the computer for you. It’s 89mm touchscreen display is crisp and responds well, even while wearing winter gloves. You also have the option to display up to ten different data fields across multiple screens. So, whether you train after the sun goes down or race in the middle of the day, you’ll always have a clear display that’s easy to flick between
There’s a number of safety features included, as well. Once you pair the Edge 1030 Plus with your phone your loved ones or riding partners will be able to track you live. Incident Detection is also offered, which should the worst happen and you are involved in an accident will automatically notify a designated person. When descending fast, twisty roads while using the built-in navigation you can receive alerts of approaching sharp turns or particularly steep sections
A key feature of the device is the navigation functionality. The large screen makes seeing your pre-planned route a breeze. Head off down the wrong road and off-course calculations will let you know and get you back on track. If you want to mix up your usual riding routes then auto-route creation will generate something for you to follow.

Garmin 1030 Plus
Bought this as an upgrade to my 7 year old Garmin 1000 which was losing battery lifespan so gave that to my wife who cycles shorter routes. Love the 1030 Plus. Sharper, bigger screen. Better touch control. Super fast boot times. Better integration and sounds with Varia radar. Like the climbing pro feature and the performance condition is useful information. Very large built in memory so no need for micro SD card for maps. Very pleased overall. Only negative was the unit froze on me mid ride on a very poor surface road so not sure whether it was a coincidence or the jostling that caused the freeze.
The Garmin 1030 plus has a major defect. The elevation gain and slope percentage is about 100 to 150 meter off. For exemple if you are climbing a 100 meter long hill at 10%, starting from a flat road it will indicate 0% for the entire hill. The total elevation gain for a full trip is OK, but is false by about 100 meters for each event. So, the altimeter or the software is too slow. I did not have problem on my previous Garmin Edge 800. According to Garmin blog they are all like that, possibly a software problem. The rest of the computer is very good and the screen has a very good definition. For my application it is useless. If, Garmin is not able to solve the problem I will ask a reimbursement and look for something else. Best Regards,
