Product Overview

The lightweight, reliable choice for your feet. Look's brand new Keo 2 MAX pedal as used by the Tour 2009 winner Alberto Contador and countless others.New for this model is an increased contact surface area and steel wear plate.

Lightweight:

At a mere 122g the Keo 2 MAX Carbon is one of the lightest pedals in its category. This has been achieved through the use of a carbon injection process allowing for weight reduction and improved durability.

Increased reliability:

Particular attention was focused on reliability and provided through features such as: a carbon injected pedal body, a stainless steel cleat contact area, an oversized axle with dual seals, making this a pedal built to last.

The new line of Keo 2 MAX pedals maintains a low cleat contact height even with the use of a steel oversize axle. The pedal is built with two miniature ball bearings (12mm inner x 18mm outer diameters) and a needle roller bearing. LOOK axles are only approved once they have survived a million cycles at 100 revolutions per minute with a 90kg (198lbs) load at the centre of the pedal and an eccentric rotation (replicating a bump each revolution). This test largely surpasses current standards (reference NF EN 14781). Dual seals help to increase bearing longevity.

Adjustable Q-factor:

Thanks to 14mm of threads on the new LOOK axle, the Q-factor may be extended by 2mm with the use of specific washers available separately. Use of these specific washers results in a Q-factor of 55mm versus the original 53mm.

Key Features:

  • A 12% larger contact area for increased efficiency and comfortable stroke.
  • On the left is the old model and on the right the new - the contact area is noticeably larger - for increased stability and peace of mind.
  • Supplied with Keo Grip cleats (grey).
  • CroMo axles.
  • Weight: 122g (Manufacturer claimed).

Decent Upgrade - Review by Martin

I bought these to replace a defective pair of SPD pedals. I had initial concerns about switching away from the 'double sided' SPD pedals and their ease of entry/exit, but decided to take the plunge and I have been generally pleased with my choice. They are extremely light and spin very well. I have had them for several months now and have not experienced any of the 'spin' problems mentioned in earlier reviews, nor have I experienced any 'strange squeaks' or noises from cleats or pedals. They are not as easy to enter as the SPD's but by the same score, I have also not experienced any unwanted exits, as once in, you are firmly held in contact with the pedal. The pedals also make a nice 'clonking' sound when entering, leaving you in no doubt that your shoe and pedal are one. I have the grey 5 degree float cleats and these work fine with my knees.

Poor 1st generation quality - Review by Aaron

Like the previous reviewer, I also purchased these when they first came out. The metal plate is a huge improvement over the older plastic body design. However, mine also have the bearing problems of the 1st generation of these pedals. Apparently, Look has fixed this and all these pedals now spin like we're used to. Look customer service has been horrible to deal with, if you can even reach them.

great upgrade - Review by briam

I got these pedals as a upgrade from the composite material Look Keo 2 max, and these carbon ones are amazing because they are light and spin so well. I ride these on the track, and they have never popped out or disengaged. I would really recommend these, they're really good and well made.

Ok pedal, does it's job - Review by Tommy

I bought this pedal as soon as it came out on PBK. I got the first run of them which had problems with the pedal spinning smoothly. Apparently the seal was manufactured to be too tight causing resistance in the spin (independent research I did on the net). After some use (1.5 years) they do spin a little more smoothly but not the way I'd like them. I personally was not impressed with this. If I didn't have look pedals on two other bikes I would have already switched to Shimano. Can't go wrong with DA pedals or Shimano cleats. One other thing, these pedals sometimes make a lot of noise. Other than the problems mentioned, these pedals do their job. I would just settle with a little extra weight and go with a bullet proof system like Shimano DA pedals.

Quality and durability as you would expect from Look - Review by code618

These offer a good blend of light weight, a solid platform and durability. A noticeable improvement from the first generation Keo pedals due to the larger contact platform which has a noticeably more solid feel. The bearings spin smoothly with no notable drag. The only downside is that the cleats can wear over time and need regular replacement and the aformentioned cleats are prone to developing the dreaded Look 'creak'. This seems to come and go depending on the wear on the cleat and is not consistent. It does not impact on performance in any way.
