Rival is an incredible groupset for what it delivers and how well it performs.
New features such as the carbon brake levers reduce weight by 40g and Double Tap technology delivers smooth up and downshifts in one natural motion.
Key Features:
- Chainset - hollow-forged aluminium cranks lose 40g from its predecessor, and comes in Standard and Compact version.
- Double Tap Shifters - have the reach adjust feature, available only on SRAM's DoubleTap shift levers, allows riders to customise their SRAM brake and shift levers for a perfect fit.
- Brakeset - Dual Pivot performance and a proprietary pad compound, the SRAM Rival Brakeset delivers high power with progressive feel.
- Rear Derailleur - matches SRAM's Exact Actuation with tried-and-true competition proven design and construction.
- Front Derailleur - designed to work in perfect concert with the Rival Rear Derailleur's Exact Actuation.
- Chain - great shifting and quiet running.
- Cassette - new design makes for near silent running.
- BB - GXP system is well sealed and stable.
A groupset typically consists of 8 items - chainset, BB, shifters, brakeset, rear & front derailleur, cassette and chain. Please make sure you select all of these overleaf (an own brand cableset is included with all shifter sets).
Don't forget you can customise your groupset with items like a Nokon cableset or a Chris King BB by clicking 'CUSTOMIZE' above. Please note that with extras (hoods, cables and jockey wheels etc) these will require fitting and you will still receive the original equipment. With the Nokon cables you require 2 sets for a groupset (for brake and gear).
Please note: Groupsets may contain OE parts which won't be boxed. Please make sure you select the correct options on all of your components overleaf.

- Great value groupset - Review by pjay

I bought this groupset for my first carbon bike as it's lighter than the rivals :-) Coming from Shimano the shifting has a more mechanical feel and the Doubletap action takes a bit of getting used to. The carbon brake levers are a nice touch and the whole thing seems well made and designed.

I have been on SRAM Rival for a couple of years and am glad I chose it over Ultegra when I bought my bike, for two reasons. First it made my bike purchase cheaper than had I gone with Ultegra which enabled me to spend that savings on a number of necessities one needs when buying a new bike (seat bag, cateye computer, lights, gloves, etc.). Second, I really like the double tap feature and it didn't take any getting used to because I wasn't much of a rider before I got started, mostly my rides were on my wife's bike with Shimano shifters, and I didn't ride all that frequently. I'm not knocking Ultegra, but for the price, weight and the features that came on Rival (such as adjustable reach on the levers and shift paddle) I could not see paying more. That said, Ultegra is probably a bit of a smoother operator and just as reliable.
So take your pick, but I say pick Rival and pocket some change to blow on some lighter wheels, necessary bits for your bike, or a sweet pair of bibs to keep your rear happy.(Posted on 15/06/2011)
- great performance, fabulous value - Review by Jason

I just built up a new bike with SRAM Rival. I have to say, it felt extremely counter-intuitive the first time I rode it. The double-tap levers are elegant in design, but they require a bit of thinking, particularly if you are used to a two-lever groupo. In particular, the front shifter is tricky. I still feel like I have to anticipate needing to make a front shift a bit (kind of like when you first switched to clipless pedals). That said, each ride becomes more intuitive, and I have no doubt that I will feel quite comfortable soon. More to the point, the group was a fabulous value and the weight is terrific. It's hard to see why one would choose Ultegra over Rival. It costs less, weighs less, and has a reputation for durability. I can't speak to the latter yet, but so far, aside from the awkwardness of switching over, I'm impressed.
