2011 Power Torque Centaur: easy to maintain, lightweight, and retains the same U and Q factors of its "big brother" Ultra-Torque. Campagnolo engineers wanted to do more i.e. drastically improve shifting performance.

In order to achieve this demanding objective the gears of the Centaur crankset have been completely redesigned - eight sectors dedicated to the upward movement of the chain. The new Power Torque axle system used for the Centaur crankset is the ideal solution with high rigidity of the cranks and chainrings along with an extremely light weight to achieve the most efficient power transmission.

Key Features:

  • Features eight sectors dedicated to the upward movement of the chain, the two for the downward movement.
  • MPS Micro Precision Shifting.
  • machining of the teeth make it possible to shift rapidly and without any hesitation.
  • Positioned in the most extreme points of the central axle, guarantee the maximum smoothness and perfect efficiency of the pedalling over time.
  • Power Torque chainsets include the drive-side bearing, the other is included with the BB cups (not included).
  • Compatible with existing Campagnolo 10-speed systems (requires the new BB).
  • Fitting requires a standard 12mm allen key.
  • 34/50T black anodised chainrings.
  • Weight: 645g (PBK office scales).
Brand:
  • Campagnolo

Performs as well as its pricier cousins at a fraction of the price

Campag applies the same construction techniques to the Centaur as it does to its flagship series, minus the Ultra-Torque BB system. The full carbon Centaur cranks have a multi-directional carbon fibre core with uni-directional weave, bonded to a Power-Torque chromoly axle.

An oversized axle with a splined interface on the non-drive side interlocks on the left crank arm and is tightened with a bolt. It’s easy to fit, but removal requires a Campag spacer kit and an automotive crank pulley. The bonus is big weight loss because of the simple fitments, and a narrower q-factor (distance between the pedals) that, it’s said, offers more efficient pedalling.

The Centaur’s 644g weight makes it a market leader at this price. The chainrings are machined alloy, with plenty of excess material taken away. It offers a 94g saving from the alloy version.

The ring material quality makes for very little flex. Combine this with neatly ramped teeth and plenty of shift pins (eight on the big ring) aiding chain movement and the chainset shifts sweetly on 10-speed drivetrains. It works brilliantly with Campagnolo, as we’d expect, but handles SRAM and Shimano well too. It’s quite flex free but the finish is reasonably easy to mark.
