Polaris Bike Pod Pro

Just received my bike pod pro. Test-packed my bike to see how easy it was and how it would fit compared to the BikeBox Alan. I have one of those as well. I have a Cervelo R5 (51cm) and it seems to fit quite easily, but anything more than a 54cm, I would have my doubts. Solid construction and very maneuverable, just like the BBA. I had troubles fitting the hubs between the front triangle of the bike frame, but that will take some time and practice I think. I had to remove the bottle cage from the down- tube. Otherwise, it's a great design and good alternative to the anti-crush pole of the BBA. Pretty happy with the purchase, but it doesn't match up to the BBA in terms of easy of use. It's smaller than the BBA which airport luggage handlers will like, especially with the various handles on the box. Lastly, for the price it's one of the best alternatives to the BBA or Scicon hard case. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this bike box.

Looks good, but...

I have used other cases (trico, thule roundtrip, bikebox alan) but I haven't had an opportunity to put the case to the test yet. This case looks sharp and well constructed. It was a bit larger (in height) than I expected, but I was able to load it into the back seat of my 325i sedan....but without much room to clear the doorframe. I had expected it to load far easier than the bikeboxalan which has overlapping wheels. This box has wheels on either side of the box which should have shaved some linear inches off of the perimeter. I loaded up my bike and attempted to arrive at the optimal placement to ensure maximum protection to the frame, bars and der. hanger on my 52 caad-10. After some experimentation, I arrived at a configuration that I think will work well and that will leave ample space in the box for a helmut, shoes and kit and spare tires. However, the limiter will be the weight of the loaded box which quickly approached 50lbs with very little extra packed. That said, it has a definite maneuverablity advantage over the thule and trico. The thule was an easier fit in the back seat of the 325i sedan. That said, I was able to load the polaris in the back of a TT coupe with the seats down. The polaris has some issues though. 1. The bike box has not flat side on which to lay. The hubs face out and there are wells that protrude to accommodate them. I have some concerns that there may be excessive force transmitted to this single raised well during transit that may fatigue the case. This is in contrast to the bike box alan which has the wells on the same side thereby distributing the force over a larger area and the other side is flat. 2. the latches are a real concern in that they should be locked (per instructions) to ensure that the case does not open in transit, but the locks are non-tsa compliant ! So one should not lock them if travelling to Canada USA etc.... according to one of the sales managers at polaris, there is no guarantee the case will not open unless the latches are locked. There is no simple work-around either. I may use tape over the latches.... 3. the case is heavy, but really looks like a quality build. I would have preferred had they used velcro traps to secure the wheels rather than reusable zip ties which are a bit fussy to deal with. Overall - 4 stars (if and only if) it and my bike survive!

Superior build quality

Superior build quality, very secure and compact size makes it easy to transport. The compact proportions are great for transporting but mean you may have to dismantle your bike quite significantly to fit it in. On the upside, we had total confidence in the Pod Pro’s protection.
