The R-SYS SLR 2015 Clincher Wheelset from Mavic offers you the lightest clincher wheelset available with a wider, deeper profile for an even lower inertia. Designed with a new exclusive aero-shaped ISM 4D frame and new featherlight Yksion Pro tyre, the wheelset is enhanced further by superlight bearings and Mavic’s exclusive Tracomp technology to offer a lightweight and responsive wheelset with absolutely no compromise on reliability and durability. – L.R.

Key Features:

  • Exalith 2: Refined to give optimal levels of durability and outstanding breaking performance in all weather conditions, Mavic’s exclusive Exalith 2 technology features aluminium rims built for the occasion.
  • Inter Spoke Milling 4 Dimensions: An industry-leading technology exclusive to Mavic, ISM 4D not only significantly reduces weight and reduces inertia without compromising durability, but also improves aerodynamics due to its new streamlined rim shape.
  • Griplink: For superior grip and control, GripLink tyres are optimized for front use, by offering a superior grip and extra puncture protection.
  • Powerlink: Offering low rolling resistance to transfer power and generate greater speed, PowerLink tyres are optimized for rear wheel use by minimizing the rolling resistance.
  • Tracomp: Extremely light Tracomp carbon fibre spokes works in traction and compression to provide a very high stiffness level in any circumstances.
  • Force Transfer System Light: T contact area between the pawl and the hub body is reinforced by 2 stainless steel inserts, which allows the use of a 100% aluminium hub body.
  • Fore: Instead of being drilled, the lower rim bridge is pushed up on the inside, then threaded to enable the spoke nipples to be directly screwed in it, leaving the upper rim bridge intact.
  • Qualité de Roulements Mavic Super Light: The super light bearings are designed having in mind the QRM strict specifications. The matching hub axles are machined within extremely narrow tolerances, then one by one adjusted with very high precision when assembled.
  • Zicral: A specific aluminum alloy that provides spokes with higher stiffness-to-weight ratio while being stronger.
  • Maxtal: Exclusive to Mavic, this specific aluminum alloy offers a higher strength to weight ratio than conventional 6106 alloy.
  • Soudé Usiné Process: The rim joint is arc welded and then milled for a smooth finish.

Stiff and light

Before buying this wheel, I had the Fulcrum 1's on my old Tarmac Pro SL with 700cx23 ultremos. I did a lot of research and ruled out carbon as we get a lot of wet weather in vancouver canada. I know it is the least aero of the wheels and read of issues with the carbon spokes when they first came out. But I also read more recent reviews and long term reviews from people who had no issues with them at all, especially after Mavic had changed the design and manufacturing of the spokes, making them less likely to break. I was debating between the dura ace 35s and the mavic r-sys. What won me over was the Exalith 2 braking surface, hearing how amazing these brakes were in both wet and dry, I was sold. Well and the fact at how light and stiff they are. After having them for over a month now, I am sold! The transfer of power to the wheels is night and day between the fulcrums and the mavics. The power exerted to get these wheels going is effortless. I am amazed at the difference between the two wheels. I frankly was skeptical when I ordering them but no more. When they say the biggest upgrade for a bike is the wheels, believe it. Mind you, if you already have a light wheel, you probably won't notice a big difference. I do have to agree with what people say; the effort to keep it rolling once in motion does take more effort due to the non-aeroness of the wheels. Luckily the terrain here varies, so a light, low inertia wheel is great; especially with all the hills and mountains we have here in Vancouver. The braking on this wheel is amazing, as expected, but they do squeal like a pig for a while, especially when braking hard. Overall I am very happy with this upgrade, it has enhanced my biking enjoyment to another level. I can't say enough about these wheels. I know I bought them for the braking but what impressed me the most is how well the power is transferred to motion and how great these are for climbing. Lastlly, though I can't say for sure if my hubs on the other wheels may have just needed repacking, but with the new wheels I am consistently riding one to two cogs smaller on the rear cassette than I was before. Wow, great wheels Mavic.
