A multi-purpose clincher wheel with a medium profile rim and exclusive G3 spoke pattern. Scirocco wheels have won the heart of enthusiasts thanks to the extraordinary price/performance ratio. Rims with a 24 mm profile combine with oversize hubs with top-class spoking: spokes with a variable section and aerodynamic profile, radial on the front wheels and G3 on the rear ones. The hubs turn on high-class sealed bearings and the rear one has a monolithic freewheel body. Dynamic balancing and new-generation quick releases complete the picture of these technological jewels.

Key Features:

  • Sealed industrial bearings mean low friction, easy to change.
  • Variable section stainless steel aero spokes.
  • Dynamic balancing for greater stability at high speeds.
  • Monolithic FW body.
  • Locking with light-alloy lever housing and Symmetric Action light-alloy lever.
  • G3 geometry (rear) for greater lateral rigidity, maximum torque transmission.
  • Aluminium hub bodies.
  • Weight: Front 775g, Rear 1020g (Manufacturer claimed).
  • Weight refers to the lighter specification among the available options. The weight of the wheels does not include the quick-release.
  • Please note the Scirocco is not dual fit, dual fit refers to some options of medium profile wheels only.
Tire Compatibility:
  • Clincher

Great Wheels

I purchased this wheel set for my new bike. I was building the bike from scratch and originally had a more expensive wheel set in mind. My frame cost more than I had budgeted so something had to give. After some research, I settled in on the Sciroccos. Weight was not an issue for me as I am not a racer. I just enjoy my two days of riding per week (35-50 miles per ride). The price at PBK was awesome and I could not be more pleased with my choice of wheels. I highly recommend this wheel set, especially for the price. They ride well and the look good. I was initially worried that they were a little too "flashy" looking for my taste but they really look nice on my Colnago.

Scirocco wheels

Wheels are great, but disappointed they were assembled with an assortment of black and chrome spokes.

Concentric and true, with unusual G3 spoke pattern on the rear

The Scirocco rear wheel uses Campagnolo’s G3 spoking pattern: every radial left-hand spoke sits between two tangential right-hand spokes. This divides the load better, but means you’re limited to the company’s own rims.

Most of the spokes are bladed except for two plain-gauge spokes up front and one in the rear. Campagnolo do this to balance the wheel, and while the rim joint opposite is annoyingly prominent we’re not sure why a tiny weight wasn’t fixed to the rim instead. Build quality is fair: the wheels are concentric and true but spoke tension needs to be more consistent.

Sadly Campagnolo quality comes with Campagnolo flaws.

Strengths:
Great hubs with fast running very smooth long-lasting bearings and races.
Strong rims have stayed reasonably true even through heavy use on poor roads.
Tyres fit "very" securely on these rims which will keep them from rolling off should you suffer a puncture while cornering at speed (perhaps such security is of value to the paranoid).
Recognisable G3 rear wheel for those who want an Italian look to their bike.

Weaknesses:
Large rims mean that removing a tyre is very difficult and time consuming: you won't want these on your bike for a Sportive or indeed any event you've trained for.
Rim wear hasn't compared favourably with other brands.
G3 Campagnolo proprietary system on the rear wheel: does not allow for perfect re-adjustment of wheels should they depart from true (NB. wheels can be trued by professionals to a "working condition" but the style and number of spokes limits the mechanic in many cases).
Rear hub is cut/drilled purely for this G3 system meaning the great sealed rear hub is unusable with any other rim type. (As an associated point I have found Campagnolo to have pretty appalling after-sales (particularly through their UK distributors) with spare G3 rims unavailable and quoted at a price that precludes replacement).

Summary:
The high quality of these wheels (at their price point) cannot justify the practical problems of tyre replacement and limitations of a proprietary design that ensures these wheels can only be a consumable not an investment. There are better options for consumable wheels so if you "really" want to buy an economy Campagnolo wheelset my advice is to get the cheaper Khamsins and invest in another set for big days.

On balance I can't really recommend these to anyone.
