Durable Tire!

I have just had to retire my original equipment Ultra Race after about 8300 miles. Even with a couple thousand miles riding with the casing visible, it cornered and took hills well. I'll be getting another in the next few days. Very durable and remarkably flat-free.

ultra race

Continental ultra race-nice light tyre, it is wellpriced and gets good milage.

continental ultra race

Great tyres! Just replaced last set after nearly 6000 kms. Light and fast, what more could you want.

tyres

These tyres are the best all round continential tyre. They wear well, are extremely fast, and great value from Torpedo7.

Ok, but not buying again

I purchased the Continental Ultra Race Clincher Road Tyre as a Spring tyre to replace my Specialized Armadillo tyres (440 grams each) which I run through the winter. After one week of commuting (50 miles total), I had had three punctures from sharp stones working their way through the tyre. I switched back to the Specialized tyre's until summer arrived. I've now found that one tyre has a side to side wobble in it. This isn't because it's not seated right, I've remounted it and always there is the wobble. And, there is a small hole/slit right through the tyre which causes a bulge and I worry will fail in one big bang. Conclusion: Gatorskins are better training/commuting tires. 4000S's are better race tires. The Ultra Race's just seem to wear too fast and structurally fail. I'm considering buying one more to replace the damaged one, but it's a tough call given how few miles (maybe up to 250 now) I've had from them.

So-so, OK, good buy for cheapie rubber

I'm 140lbs , 5'7". These came with my 2012 Scott CR1 Pro. Unmounted to compare against Michie Pro4's. Noticed immediately the very thin almost non-existent sidewall. More to follow.

Went on a spin w/fronts inflated to 88lb, rears 92. Rubber tacky with good grip, climbs well no loss of traction. Taking a specific downhill curve @ 25-28 MPH sidewalls give in leaving an uneasy feeling in my stomach. Went home and inspected tires. Rear showed 1/4" slight wear off center. Not good in my books.

Next day inflated to 92/96 and went out for a spin. Slight loss of traction on climbs. Same sidewall flex as the day b4. Went home and moved wheelset to Cervelo S5. Same results; OK straight line tire, but not for high speed curves. Rubber thickness indicates minimum wear life. Chinzed on sidewall rubber/threads to save weight. Decent buy for putt-putt low speed training.

Good Tire

These tires came stock on my first road bike. While I have nothing to compare them to I have not had a single flat. I have put about 2000k and have noticed some squaring of the rear tire. I would like to buy something different this next go around just for comparison.

After 2 weeks

Well these came on my new scott foil 40 and I had a puncture after the 5 time out, my friend also bought a Scott also with these and he had a puncture within 3 weeks. I'd have to say that these are prone to punctures! Apart from that great tyres.

Rapid Wear

Loved these tires to start with. Super grippy, roll well and seem fast. Then I noticed ther wear. I always run my tires at highest recommended pressure, but after only 800km (500miles) both tires were squared off. Might only get 1500km out of them which is not enough for me. Also seem to puncture easily. Race tires only.

overall well

great tire, very sticky, and low rolling resistance
