These are excellent tyre so for the roads I ride on. I have used the 4000S and they seem to get worn out very fast due to the road surface in some parts of my neighborhood. Since switching to the Gators all my problems have disappeared. I did not notice any difference between the 4000S and the Gatorskins while riding. Very satisfied with these types.
Needed a little extra tire for a gravel grinder. The tires stood up to some really rough Vermont back roads, if you care to call them roads. I used a road bike with rim brakes. The hilly nature of this ride made for tough braking. The wheels tended to swim on descents, which made for some scary turns. The plus side is that these tires were bullet proof. I ran over or through some minefields along the way. Overall ride comfort was a plus on asphalt surfaces. While these tires performed well, I will avoid gravel grinders in the future.
Seemed like a very good tire....had a puncture on the first outing. I hope this is not an omen of things to come for this pair of tires.
Awesome tire at an awesome price! Fast shipping and super customer service!
I have been using these tires for a few years on my road bike (700x25) and have found them to be the best combination of ride and flat protection. Using the Gatorskins with tire liners has worked very well in almost 20,000 miles of cycling. I normally get around 3,000 miles for a rear tire, little more for the front. The roads where I ride are not good and have a lot of debris.
Very durable training/touring tire that rides really nice; excellent value. Particular favorite is the 25cm for comfort and traction in all weather conditions.
Excellent tyres! Been commuting on them for years with - well I can't even recall a flat!! Wear well and handle well on descents. Love'em
I am the "official" tire changer during our weekend group rides that involve between 30-40 riders in our A and B groups. I used to change 3-4 flat tires every weekend ride. Some of the Riders starting asking me why I never seemed to get flats? I told them I had started using the Gatorskin Tires and the flat tires disappeared. We now have about 80% of the group riding on them and it has made the ride much more enjoyable now that we almost never stop for flat tires. I do have a few useful tips: 1. The tires do have a direction of rotation arrow, make sure you mount them correctly. 2. If you like 23mm tires, you will love riding the 25mm tires. 3. Use about 10 psi less in the tires (approx 100 psi vs 110psi) for a smoother ride 4. Inspect your tires and pull out any small bits of glass or rock as they will eventually work their way through to the tube. 5. Store you bike indoors to avoid premature weathering of your tires. 6. Ride safe and keep the rubber side down.
Great tires, the 25mm can handle any weather without sacrificing speed. Bought them for winter riding in New England, and for a road race which includes gravel roads. Highly recommend. Best price worldwide from probikekit
The only tire I ride. Almost never get a flat. ProKit always has the best price too. A win win.
I've been using these in the 25mm width as my daily training tire for about 5 years. The 25s ride a little smoother and faster than the 23s and are a bit more durable, probably because I can run them at a lower pressure (f105; r 110, I weigh 180). I get about 2000 miles on the rear and between 2500 and 3000 on the front, and change out well before any cords or casing shows. The ride is a bit rough (smoothest on the 25s), but that's the trade-off for a bullet-proof casing. The only downside is that handling in the rain is a bit sketchy (not horrible), so I take it easy through corners. A confidence inspiring tire that won't leave you stranded in the boonies on your long training rides.
Absolutely love these tires. M They are pretty much indestructible. Great price and fairly quick delivery. What more can you ask for.
These tires are known for their durability and best known for their puncture resistive qualities. I'm currently using them for Winter training rides.
I use these for training and commuting to work. Very durable and reliable. A bit on the heavy side for racing but I suppose it can be used if you don't want to get a more race specific tire. I travel rough roads so keep the PSI @ 90-92 for a 200 lb rider. I ride them till they're squared and the cord shows and only recall 1 flat on my last pair. I'll keep buying them based on my experiences.
These gatorskins are very good tires, very durable
Our group rides distance, (road bikes on asphalt roads) in supported and not supported rides. Flats previously were a problem. Most of our riders have now switched over to Gatorskins, based on good experience by a few. I ride 5-6000 mi per yr, with 0-1 flats per yr. Gatorskins even successfully defeat the local Southern California scourge, "goat heads". When you feel one going thump as it goes around, just stop and pull it out and usually you're still good to go. As a side benefit, they wear well. I usually change them after a year, because I'm getting nervous, not because they are bare. They weigh slightly more, but for our use, well worth the additional grams.

Buy these in 25s. Run them at 90 psi until you wear the tread down so there are ridges. Replace them. I have done this for about 6 years and tens of thousands of miles and have had two (2) flat tires with these.
I run Gatorskins on all my road bikes, including my tandem, all year round. I don't recall ever getting a flat during the summer months, and during winter only get flats after a couple thousand miles. My 40 km commute takes me over gravel roads, chip seal, heavily potholed asphalt in an industrial area, bike trails, and 'regular' city roads. I live in Seattle, so the roads are wet much of the time, but I rarely skid on heavy braking with these tires I don't race, so I'm not as concerned with weight or high-speed cornering, and can't compare them to racing tires. But for putting on lots and lots and lots of miles (like commuting or training) they are perfect for riding if you don't like fixing flats. The only issue I have with Gatorskins is that the thickened rubber on the center track tends to collect and hide tiny sharp rocks and glass. I just quickly check the tires every evening and pick out the debris with a small screwdriver. I do ride lots of miles, and love the reliability and cost-effectiveness of the Gatorskins. Note: PBK often offers the best price in the world that I've found, although they are not reliable in terms of having the size I need, when I need it. For example, as I write this review they only have 700x23s in stock. So, I purchase more than I need and keep some spares on hand.
excellent tire for all seasons but her in the US a great winter tire
I bought a set for a friend, and she has had no flats, despite lots of debris in our bike lanes. I highly recommend if flat protection is what you seek.
What can I say? I've put 5K miles on these tires in two seasons and I haven't had a single flat and they're just now getting to the point where I'm thinking about replacing them. Solid all-around tire, just fine in rain (I ride even during heavy downpours) and considering the PBK price, a really great deal to boot. A little more difficult to change than some other folding clinchers, but it makes your hands tougher. Just be sure to use the right, specifically sized tubes and not a catch-all size to prevent pinch flats. Not the fastest, lightest tire out there but totally suitable for recreational riders and commuting.
Have had then for 400 mile now and no problems. They roll great, are very tough. Well worth the money.
Everything they say about the gator skin is true. It's a tough, reliable wheel. Service from pro bike kit was nice. I ordered these from the States and everything arrived in a timely manner!
I've been riding a set of these for 9 months, at least 3 times a week, on rough chip seal roads. The front is still really good and the rear hasn't yet worn through the wear indicators, which is a great feature of this tire. I'm 200 lbs so quite a bit of pressure ends up on my rear tire. Not the lightest, but pretty good considering its toughness, and the ride is quite acceptable as well. I experimented with a lot of tires, and have really come to appreciate the durability and flat resistance of these. You won't be disappointed.
My purchase came in a timely manner and the price was excellent!
The Continental Gatorskin Clincher Road Tyre are such nice riding tires. I tried the Hardshells but it was too uncomfortable of a ride. These are great riding tough tires at a great price.
The Continental Gatorskin Clincher Road Tyre arrived.... eventually (shipping to USA) and has been wonderful! I have had fewer punctures/flats, I guess you can buy peace of mind.
Great training tire. Almost 5,000 miles on a rear tire before the belt started to show. Still got a few flats, but it was one every couple of weeks instead of a couple every week.
2500 miles on my rear 700 x 25mm gator skin with no flats. The rear tire was getting worn so I replaced it before a series of big rides just to make sure but there were still plenty of miles left on it I think. The front tire still looks great. The foldables are pretty light too considering the extra protection. First purchase from PBK. Went well. Minneapolis MN USA
Got a great set of training tires for the price I'd pay in the states for 1 shipped free across the pond in a very reasonable amount of time.
Bought two 25C's for my wife's bike ... liked them so much I put them on mine!
The Continental Gatorskin Clincher Road Tyre is a great price and I received great delivery!
The Continental Gatorskin Clincher Road Tyre is a great all round tyre. They give you pretty solid, flat protection while still managing to give you good rolling resistance. If you're not looking for a pure race tyre, I would recommend these.
