Time XC4..Simple Great Design
This is my first pair of Time pedals been riding clipless for over 20 yrs and have always used SPD type pedals. Seemed a challenge to get the setup 'just right' with SPD's so was resistant to change not knowing what I was missing, tolerating mediocre performance that degraded further whenever dirt was involved. Friends had recommended ATAC's over the years so decided to give them a go. The design of the pedals and cleats is so simple that it just works. Installation was a snap, very simple to align the cleats properly the first time. There was virtually zero learning curve since they worked more predictably than SPD's, and now a little dirt on my shoes and pedals does not affect entry and exit like it does with SPD's. In fact I have injured myself many times over the years because of entry/exit issues with SPD pedals. Would recommend TIME ATAC pedals over any SPD now that I have seen the light.
So far so good
I haven't spent enough time with these pedals to have a definite opinion, but so far so good. I used them mostly for cyclocross, and they seem to work well in mud, hardpack and grass. They are indeed self cleaning and haven't had any issues clipping in. I have them set for the 'competition' setting for unclipping, but I find that may be a bit too much; it's a configurable setting, so that's good.
