I bought a Trek hybrid road bike that had everything that I wanted in a road bike except the gearing. It came with a 34t-50t chainring with a 9speed 11-34 cassette. There was no way I could use a 50t chainring effectively. I could use the 34t, but always seemed to be cross chained. After much calculation I determined that a 42t outer chainring would be the perfect solution for me. It seemed that most bike shops had something that was close, but no one had a 42t outer. I found that Specialites TA Zephyr was the only company that had a 42t outer chainring. After a few hundred miles now the gear ratio could not be more perfect for me. There are no duplicate ratios between the 34t & 42t and I still have over 100 gear inches when I need it. The chainring does not appear to be ramped, but is pinned and shifts perfectly.
