Never Leave home without it!

I have to throw my hands up and admit it - I've been addicted to drilling down into all the data my Garmin Edge 800 captures since the day I bought it. And then, I found Strava, meaning my post ride ritual these days is to quickly plug this little fella in and check out all my Stats from my ride, be it training, ultra distance or just a wee commute. Multiple Bike Profiles is a boon with this device - I have all three of my bikes set up in it, and its only a matter of a few tap tap swipes to change them. So, 9 times out of ten, I'm on one of the road bikes, and living in Scotland, the Garmin has to cope with a barrage of elements out on the front of my bars, and it takes on the challenge with Gusto! I've never once had an issue with water ingress or any such thing. When I ventured into Mountain biking last year, I wasn't sure that the Garmin would be at home strapped to my bars whilst I descended through rock gardens and knee deep mud, but in fact, it was always there, looking back up at me as if to say - GIVE ME MORE!!! I purchased this bundle originally as my partner and I cycled across france and needed a means of Wayfinding - I set up all our day routes before we left using the Garmin Connect software, and had an amazingly stress free trip, soaking in scenery instead of burying my head in a map (And trying to fold the blessed thing afterwards.) --- Do yourself a favour - Get a Garmin, and Ride Argyle.

complete menu of training data capture, navigation, and performance monitoring

As the top offering from cycling data leaders Garmin, their Edge 800 serves up a complete menu of training data capture, navigation, and performance monitoring – all with an easy to read and use touchscreen. It’s ANT+ data signal makes it compatible with a variety of other manufacturer’s devices too. -pezcyclingnews.com

vast features

The features of the Garmin Edge 800 are vast. It can practically do everything except turn the pedals. In short, the Garmin Edge 800 is an excellent successor to the Garmin 705 with additional touch-screen functionality and ANT+. If you already own an Edge 500, you’ll be familiar with the menu options and functionality (minus the maps). The mapping abilities that the Edge 800 offers are a significant upgrade from the Edge 500, and would be my main reason for upgrading. -cyclosport.org

Does everything you want... and more - the best available

I've had this for just over two months now - I cannot praise it highly enough!

GPS - Turn-by-turn directions are great, satellite acquisition is quick, routes and virtual partner options are accurate, the inbuilt map is not detailed enough for even the most basic of cycling - the European maps bundled with this are very good

Ant+ integration - works seamlessly with ant+ devices - no pairing required - just picks them up automatically

Cycling data - an incredible amount of information at your finger tips - up to 10 fields per screen - all customisable (even on the go) - the touch-screen works just like an ipod.

Online integration - linked to Garmin Connect, the post-ride analysis is as detailed or high-level as you want. Full integration with google or bing maps, you can interactively navigate through your ride.

Only drawback - Uploading routes is a little fiddly - you need to create the routes with a third party site (e.g. MapMyRide), export as GPX and then copy into the 'NewFiles' directory of the Edge.

Pricey - but worth the investment if you're either cycling in foreign parts or interested in both detailed post-ride and during-ride analysis.
