Zefal Paragon C40 40mm Mudguards

I purchased these guards because they were made in France so I expected a high quality finish. The instructions are easy to follow. I did however have a few issues fitting them. My first hurtle, they didn't fit the rear wheel! As I regularly commute by bike, I use a pannier rack/bag and so the bolts (that came with the set) were not long enough to fit through the rack and the mounts (for the mud guards). I got out my angle grinder and shaved of about 2mm of the pannier rack - problem solved. My second issue was the rear guard was not long enough (it's a two piece system which locks together [in the middle section of the guard] and fixes to the frame at the top [under the seat] and bottom [behind the pedal] of the bike frame), approx 5-10mm to short. So I forced it to fit. That worked but now the guard was warped. I overcame this my using a cable tie and drilled a small hold in the guard and fastened it to the frame (on the side it was warped) with a cable tie. The next issue was the length of the steel arms (the things that attach from the frame to the guard), they were too long. Out came the angle grinder and I cut off about 20mm in order to get the guard to sit closer to the Tyre. With the back now successfully secured I moved to the front mount. This was fairly straight forward other than the arms were also too long, out came the angle grinder (again) but this time about 40mm was taken off. On the first ride to work with my new guards (guys, you will relate to this), it rattled the whole way!!! A woman would not have even noticed the rattle but as a man, I thought a freight train was following me. So that night when I got home, I used silicon rubber (glue) on all the attaching points to the guard (where the steel attaches to the plastic guard) - problem solved. All up, I spent around 3.5 hrs attaching them and I was fortunate enough to have all the EXTRA tools needed to get a good fit. I have given them a 3 star rating because they work but it was not a simple fit. That said, nearly every review I've read on other brands had similar issues with the installation. If I was to be critical of the design, I would have liked a single rear guard (this one is two piece with locking device). I've also noticed they are extra long guards which is great for reducing the amount of water but they can get caught on gutters (when waiting at lights) if not careful.
